Description
Rare! Vintage maritime handheld signal lamp/light by Manhattan Marine and Electric Co. Not sure how old the item is, but I would guess around the 40's. Body of the signal light is cast aluminium and has a long electrical cord with a two plug screw adapter/connector. Comes with three interchangeable glass filters, (clear, blue and red) for use under different conditions. Light has a "scope", (basically a tube) so you can direct the signal at particular target/other ship. Handle features two triggers. One trigger functions as the switch for the light. The other trigger tilts the inside light bezel which allows for rapid visual signal transmission of light bursts, (Think of old war movies, with ships communicating to one another using a light with a shutter, same thing here). Unfortunately the item does not a have a bulb, nor do I know what type it would use. All there is inside the lamp bezel is a brass threaded electrical coupler of some sort. Box is original and even made to fit the scope on the top of the lamp with notches on the inside of the box. Box also has small partitions to store the different light filters. It looks like the handle was replaced at some point as were the hinges on the back. Overall the box measures 14"x 9"x 10" tall. I did some research on the item and could not find another like it. The company it's made by, (Manhattan Marine and Electric Co.) apparently made high-end electrical components for all types of boats, and these days their components are all very hard to come by. Item is sold as is so please ask any questions you have before bidding. Note: Item is rather heavy, so the shipping cost may reflect that.Shipping and other info:
I carefully package my items to insure they make it as described. All items I sell are sold as is unless otherwise stated. I ship items within 1-3 business days upon receiving payment. Please pay for item within four days of auction close, or eBay will open an unpaid item case. I use the eBay shipping calculator for shipping costs on items and although I do not charge a handling fee, please remember: tape, boxes packing material do cost something. Many of my packages must also be custom created for the various odd dimensional profiles of the items I sell. I will be happy to combine shipping on multiple items and try and save you some money on shipping. Just let me know if you plan to make multiple purchases so we can work out the invoicing particulars.
Smells & Grime:
They come free!! Most items come from a smoker environment, but it is more likely the packing material will smell of smoke than the item. Get rid of the packing and you should be fine. If smell is a deal breaker for you keep in mind many of my items come from attics, garages, barns, basements and everywhere else, so you may need some Febreze. With the fore mentioned in mind, my items may have: dirt, grease, oil, rust, dander or other forms of filth on them. I do my best to clean things up, but some things are inherently unkempt. So if you are the same person reaching for the Febreze, you may want to grab your scrubby brush too. Please ask any questions you have before bidding and I will do my best to answer them. My inventory is constantly changing so check my other auctions for more cool stuff!
