    Description

    This
    GENUINE
    Weber 38-DGES
made in Spain, included in the
    REDLINE
    K551-38-(S)
    conversion kit,
is virtually the same size carburetor as the
    O
    riginal
    E
    quipment Carter BBD and therefore
    THE recommended replacement size carburetor
    for your Jeep
    4.2, 258, 6 cyl
    , CJ 1978-86 & YJ 1987-90, "left hand drive"....
The original Carter BBD carburetor has two synchronized barrels that measure 1 1/2" each and both barrels open at the same time (synchronized). (original equipment)
    The
    REDLINE Weber 38-DGES
has two synchronized barrels that measure 38mm each (1 1/2" +/-) and both barrels open at the same time (synchronized). (ventures 27mm)
    .
These two carburetors (BBD & 38-DGES) are "virtually" the same size and the Weber 38-DGES is the logical replacement size carburetor.
The much smaller "ECONOMY", progressive Weber 32/36 DGEV = K 551
    when used
on your Jeep 6 cyl engine is not satisfactory, the smaller "ECONOMY", progressive Weber 32/36 DGEV is too too small for
    ANY
    6 cyl...
(progressive = 1 - 32mm barrel try's to operate the 6 cyl engine at idle and until half throttle position, then the second 36mm barrel starts to open) too too small.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE 32/36-DGEV PROGRESSIVE IN ANY 6 CYL ENGINE!
    Identifying the
    GENUINE Weber
    has a: (1)
    beige colored choke element
    (not a black choke Chinese knock-off). (2)
    has "W", "Weber"
    logo cast into the body
of the carburetor (Chinese knock-offs don't have any identifying logo's). (3) They are
    made in Spain
    by LCN (
not Chinese knock-offs) see above pictures
    Genuine
    Weber's
do not have any stickers claiming they are
    Weber's (
    Those are the Chinese knock-offs).
    NOTE:
    Be aware of these differences.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    "This
    K551-38-S
converts the Weber 38-DGES carburetor to your original equipment air filter assembly, "
    TAC
    " (
    T
    hermostatically controlled
    A
    ir
    C
leaner). If your Jeep CJ or YJ has a properly functioning, or repairable O.E. air filter assembly, you probably want to keep this "heated air" operational, as it is
    VERY
useful in cold/humid climates. The main thermal operational advantage is the heated air from the exhaust manifold heat stove, enters into the air stream through the
    air filter housing's thermostatically operated
door. This heated air will better
    atomize
the fuel when the engine is cold, this will also act as an anti-icing device during the warm up cycle in your colder/humid conditions. There are more advantages to keeping your
    O
    riginal
    E
quipment air filter assembly; the engines air inlet source is in the front of your Jeep, outside the hot engine compartment after the engine is warmed up allowing it to breath cooler air, another advantage, the O.E. style replacement air filters are readily available from your local auto parts store.
This conversion, K551-38-S is preferred by many many Jeep owners in colder humid climates.
    see above picture for contents."

    This NEW
    Weber 38-DGES
    has been re-jetted by
    REDLINE
for proven excellent performance for the stock and slightly modified Jeep 4.2 ltr engine. If your engine has been modified with more "Performance" engine/exhaust modifications than "stock" you will need a jet kit # 701-DGS. This "Jet Kit" is for Altitude (4K feet and up) jetting, and "Performance" tuning. Both throttle plates have been aligned and both adjusted below the enrichening holes, the Idle Speed Screw has been set for maximum idle speed, both Mixture screws have been adjusted and are set for initial start up and both screws should find the Lean Best Idle quality with only slight screw movements after the engine has been warmed up, the float has been checked and set for proper height and drop.
All of these additional adjustments are to ensure your ease of installation, start-up, and with some simple adjustments or tuning.
    REDLINE jetting:
    Idle jets: .55mm
    Main Jets: 1.45mm
    Air Jets: 1.70mm
    Emulsion Tubes F50
    NOTE:
    ALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS
MUST HAVE A SLIGHT BUT IMPORTANT "CARBURETOR" MODIFICATION...
    BEFORE your purchase,
    let me know if...
    1.  tell me if you have a CJ 1977 and earlier, you will need special levers and cable brackets,
    2.
tell me if you have a CJ or YJ with an
    AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
you need an important carburetor modification.
Warranty is for 90 days after purchase for an
    actual manufacture defect
, not dirt, over torqueing bolts/nuts, broken stripped or abused, and limited to repair or replacement at REDLINE's discretion.
    Any conversion on any vehicle
is subjected to your local emissions laws, and this conversion is
not legal to be driven on California streets
    or Highways. This conversion
does not have an E.O. tag
(executive order) for legal use in California. Again, see your local emissions laws before purchase.
    Another "California illegal" and
    important recommendation for your Jeep
    is to use a
    REDLINE -  "large cap" H.E.I. distributor # 99891.516K
