Collectible mid 19th Century copper and brass Stern kerosene lamp converted as a lamp by
Samuel L. Dinkelspiel.
Lantern has two plates above the curved glass, one marked 1850, the other STERN, another plate on the bottom reads 'SAMUEL HALL SHIP CHANDLER EAST BOSTON.'  Samuel Hall was a ship builder and launched 110 clipper ships from a shipyard he established at East Boston, MA. The original manufacturer is believed to be Tung Woo, Hong Kong, most likely the stamp has been covered by the 1850 plaque. The interior features the oil well and wick with reflector, however it is unable to be removed and examined due to the lamp mount. Lantern measures 8 ¾" high x 4 1/4" long x 4" deep, lamp measures 18 3/4" high to socket x 6 1/2" long x 5 3/4" wide and is in very good condition, minor wear to the wood base, lamp is in Excellent working condition, lantern has has some minor rusting and oxidation on the interior, overall very nice! A fine addition to any home or collection!
